Type II Pyloric-Stop Balloon Bougie for Sleeve Gastrectomy

During laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), the surgeon staples along a calibration tube, often called a bougie, to shape the remaining gastric sleeve. A tube that stays where it should and gives a consistent reference makes that step easier to standardise. Shenyun's Type II Gastric Calibration Tube adds a balloon to the standard design for exactly this purpose.
The Type II tube carries a balloon with a capacity of about 30 mL. Once inflated, the balloon acts as a pyloric stop: it helps locate the pylorus, fix the tube in position and guide the resection path along the lesser curvature. Before the tube is removed, the balloon is deflated and residual fluid is aspirated.
The tube comes in five sizes, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 Fr (models SY02-04, SY02-00, SY02-01, SY02-02 and SY02-03), with outer diameters from 10.70 mm to 13.20 mm. It is 745 mm long, a length designed for LSG and gastric volume sizing, while the standard Type I tube is 1200 mm. The balloon has an inner diameter of 40 mm. The tube is made of medical-grade silicone and carries depth scales and a radiopaque line for intraoperative positioning. Each unit consists of the tube body, an inner cone connector, a silicone tip, a universal connector, a check valve, the radiopaque line and the balloon, and is EO sterilised for single use.
Besides sizing the sleeve, the tube supports aspiration and drainage of gastric content, and methylene blue leak testing of the staple line after resection. One device therefore covers several intraoperative steps that bariatric teams already perform.
Both the Type I and Type II calibration tubes are CE marked under the EU Medical Device Regulation as Class IIa devices, certified by SGS (notified body 1639), and are registered in Saudi Arabia with the SFDA. Shenyun's quality management system is certified to ISO 13485.
