ISO 13485 focuses on medical-device quality management systems. OEM and ODM buyers should review design transfer, purchasing controls, clean production, inspection records, complaint handling and traceability, not only capacity and price.
ISO 13485 is one of the core quality management standards for the medical device sector. In OEM and ODM sourcing, the risk is often less about whether a sample can be made and more about whether the file and process stay consistent at scale.
A supplier review should cover design transfer, material release, clean-area production, in-process inspection, retained samples, complaint handling and CAPA records. For disposable devices, sterilization batches, package validation and label-version control deserve close review.
An ISO 13485 certificate is not a complete procurement answer. Buyers still need to check certificate scope, issuing body, product relevance, recent audit findings and whether corrective actions relate to the planned device.
