FDA sterility guidance shows why sterile consumables need a document pack

FDA guidance on sterility information in 510(k) submissions gives suppliers a clear reference for sterile-device files. EO-sterilized single-use consumables should be quoted with method, SAL, packaging, shelf-life and labeling information.

FDA's sterility guidance for 510(k) submissions is available here: FDA Sterility 510(k) Guidance. It explains how sterility information is submitted and reviewed for devices labeled sterile.

For distributors, the purchasing lesson is simple: the word sterile is not enough. A sterile single-use device file should identify sterilization method, sterility assurance level, packaging system, shelf life, labeling statements, relevant standards and batch traceability.

When products are intended for hospital tender or registration channels, suppliers should also prepare packaging-validation information, sterilization-validation summaries, inspection-record examples and transport-packaging details. Complete files reduce rework during registration and customer audits.

For buyers, the sterility document pack should not appear only after registration or tender work begins. It should be reviewed with the product specification at the early evaluation stage. Suppliers that provide sterilization, packaging, shelf-life and labeling files together can reduce later rework. This article supports procurement and registration-file discussion; it does not replace regulatory consulting or local authority requirements.
